Using Your GI Bill Benefits to Launch Your Diving Career
If you’ve recently completed your military service, you know that the clock is ticking on your GI benefits and, if you don’t use them, you could lose them. Enrolling in a traditional university, however, may not be the right choice for you. Whether the prospect of sitting through four years of classes is daunting, or you’re craving the kind of camaraderie your found in the armed forces, achieving certification as a professional diver might be a better choice.
The Post 9/11 GI Bill, chapters 30, 31, 33, and 35, can be applied to professional diving training. At IDI, we keep our costs low enough that the GI bill benefit of $21,900 will cover very nearly the entire cost of attendance. On the other hand, competing diving institutes are so expensive that, even with full GI benefits, veterans will still be expected to pay tens of thousands of dollars. At IDI, we understand veterans because we are veterans. Our faculty includes veterans of the US Navy, Army, and Marine Corps, the Royal Navy, and the Danish Navy. Our training draws upon the strengths that veterans bring to the table and provides a viable way for them to exercise these strengths in a rewarding civilian career.
Commercial diving is a career that offers high potential earnings, opportunities for advancement, and breathtaking experiences that you would never have while working in a cubicle.
In addition, the commercial diving industry is growing and companies are focusing their recruiting efforts on veterans, in particular. A career as a diver offers the chance for veterans to quickly become leaders in their fields.
One means of becoming a leader in the diving industry is through becoming a supervisor. IDI will soon offer a supervisor training program that will equip divers with the skills and knowledge they need to take their commercial diving careers to the next level.
