The facilities and classrooms at IDI are all located on the Old Charleston Navy Base. This area has been rich in diving history for over 100 years and no other school in the country offers prospective divers an opportunity to train in such real-world environments.
IDI has access to ex-Navy yards and docks, which gives students an opportunity to train in the same environments commercial divers and welders work in everyday.
Our advanced facilities include a network of freshwater tanks – a 48,000 gallon main tank, a 30’ confined space tank, and a dedicated 20’ deep wet welding tank, and our advantageous location prepares aspiring divers and underwater welders for a long, rewarding career at the top of their field.
At IDI, we want our students to be comfortable and feel like they’re at home while training for a career in commercial diving. Our student housing facility is located right next door to the school and classrooms. The student room and board option includes the student room and two meals per day, Monday through Friday. Rooms are furnished with beds and storage. We do encourage students to bring their own personal linens from home.
