Commercial Diving

As a Commercial Diver, you’ll need to invest in a high-quality wetsuit. By carefully maintaining your wetsuit, you can keep it functioning as needed for years to come. Below, you’ll find some of our top tips for wetsuit maintenance.

Soak it Right Away
When you have finished diving for the day, you should soak your wetsuit as soon as possible. We recommend soaking it in a bathtub of warmwater along with either wetsuit shampoo or baking soda. It is important to avoid soaking your wetsuit in hot water, because this can cause the material to become inflexible.

Apply Some Elbow Grease
On a daily basis, soaking your suit should be sufficient. Occasionally, however, you should take a tooth brush and some wetsuit shampoo and scrub your suit. We recommend scrubbing the entire suit but focusing your efforts on the zippers and Velcro patches. You should also move the zippers up and down to dislodge any dirt that may be stuck inside.

Rinse Away Salt and Soap
After soaking your wetsuit, you should rinse it thoroughly with freshwater. It is important that all salt and soap residue be removed from the suit completely. These substances can compromise the integrity of your suit over time.

Dry it Thoroughly
After rinsing your suit, hang it inside-out on a flat hanger to dry. Be sure to keep it out of direct sunlight while drying. Once the inside has dried completely, turn it right-side out and allow the outside to dry completely.

Inspect it Carefully
When your suit is dry, inspect it carefully for tears or gouges. You should pay special attention to the seams, where tears are most common. If you do find any tears or gouges, it is important to repair them completely before returning to diving. Heavy polyester thread and wetsuit cement do a good job of repairing minor issues. If you notice a significant issue, however, you may need to have it professionally repaired.

We hope following these tips will help keep your wetsuit in great shape. We know Commercial Diving is an exciting and rewarding career and we want you to have all of the tools you need to succeed!
