Commercial Diver Training Programs at IDI
When you are ready to take the plunge and launch your new career, International Diving Institute (IDI) is here to train and certify you. IDI offers a wide range of commercial diving training to provide you with the skills and certifications you will need for a career in the maritime industries. Hands-on experience is the key to successful commercial diving training which is why all of our students receive extensive underwater and practical application training in addition to the academic subjects taught in a classroom environment. At IDI you will receive real-world training from leaders in the maritime industries. Below is a list of our course offerings along with a brief description:
Air/Mixed Gas Surface Supplied Diving
This course has been developed to allow a student to efficiently progress through and complete the course in 640 hours (16 weeks), graduate with multiple certifications, and either enroll in advance courses for more specific training or move into the workplace to start a career in the maritime industries. This accelerated program follows real life working situations, so our students arrive at school at 7 a.m. and work through the day until 4 p.m Monday through Friday – similar to the hours at a job. Despite that fact that the program is only 16 weeks long, IDI offers all the academic classes required and more dive time than other schools in a fewer number of weeks. Upon graduation, IDI students will be marketable as Certified Diver/Tenders in the maritime industries and will have earned the following memberships or certifications:
- ACDE (Association of Commercial Diving Educators, Inc.) — Certification
- ADCI (Association of Diving Contractors International)
- DCBC (Diver Certification Board of Canada) — Certification
- O2 Provider
- Open Water Scuba Certification
- CPR/First Aid
Most students will begin in this program and upon graduation can either start a career or enroll in IDI’s advanced courses for additional technical training.
This program will provide additional specialized welding training and certification from American Welding Society (AWS)/Lloyds Register. The students who complete this program can test for AWS D3.6.2017 Certification, a highly valuable credential in the maritime industries. Certified Underwater Welders can earn $59-$89+ per hour working in the North Atlantic off the United States Coast.
This one week (40 hour) course will teach students how to handle hazardous materials and to respond to emergency situations through a mix of classroom instruction and commercial underwater training. This advanced training can increase job opportunities and starting salaries for our graduates.
ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) Pilot and Technician
This is a four-week course that provides training to operate, maintain, and repair submersible machines to construct, repair, or inspect underwater structures and equipment. An ROV Pilot and Technician may use site scan sonar, operate the robot to work on repairing fiber optics, or splice cable in addition to various other technical tasks.
Students in this course will learn to cut, burn, and piece a variety of materials while underwater using the Broco Underwater Ultrahemic System.
DCBC Unrestricted Surface-Supplied Diving Supervisor
This course is for commercial divers who have at least 3 years experience and would like to advance to the supervisory level. Completion of the course will broaden your job opportunities and increase your wage scale.
Whichever course you choose, you can be sure you will benefit from excellent training and state-of-the-art facilities at IDI. Don’t wait to launch your career, enroll today!
