How to Choose the Right Commercial Diving Program for YOU
Working as a commercial diver can be extremely rewarding and engaging. It is not, however, easy. In fact, a career as a commercial diver is very demanding. Due to this reality, it is important to ensure that you are properly prepared for your career through high-quality instruction and training. Before you select a diving institute to study at, ask yourself the five questions below.
What type of certification will I receive?
Not all diver training courses are created equally. One simple way to compare different courses is to see what types of certification their graduates receive. The certification you receive will vary depending on the rigor and the quality of the course you complete and will help to determine how competitive you are in the job market. At IDI, our students graduate with certificates that are in high demand in the commercial diving field.
What type of facilities will I be trained in?
For your safety and your success as a future professional diver, it is important that you are trained in high-quality facilities that will provide you with plenty of opportunity for adequate diving experience. At IDI, our students are trained in state-of-the-art facilities that prepare them for real-world diving experiences.
How much experience do my instructors have?
You won’t learn anymore than your instructor can teach you. With this in mind, it is vital to ensure that your instructors have extensive real-world experience and are well-equipped to train you properly. At IDI, our instructors all have several years of experience. In addition, many are military veterans, which helps them to target their lessons toward the experiences of our many students who have served in the military.
What is my program’s job placement record?
The reason you are training as a commercial diver is that you want a career as a commercial diver. With this in mind, you need to ensure that the program from which you receive your training has a good job placement record. At IDI, we’re proud to say that 9.2 out of 10 graduates find jobs immediately.
How long is my training program?
This is an important question to ask yourself before enrolling in a training program. If a program is extremely short, you may not receive the proper training you deserve. On the other hand, many programs are unnecessarily long and force students to delay the launch of their careers as commercial divers unnecessarily. At IDI, our Air/Mixed Gas Surface Supplied Diving Course is a good length of 16 weeks.
We hope you’ll weigh your options carefully before selecting a commercial diver training course. This decision will influence the course of your career and we want you to make the decision that is right for you. If you have any question, please contact us today at (843) 740-1124.
